Designed for students taking private voice lessons who have a deficient sense of pitch to the extent that they are unable to handle vocal exercises of the typical college performing level. One hour a week. MUSIC ENSEMBLES Biola Chorale (1, three hours weekly). Performance of choral works representing various styles and periods . Two-week tour dur­ ing Spring semester. Open to all students by audition. Radio Choir (1, three hours weekly). Performance of choral works appropriate for the Biola Hour radio broadcast. Tour during Spring semester. Open to all students by audition. Brass Ensemble ( 1, three hours weekly). Performance of the finest in brass repertoire. Joins with the Chorale in presenting choral and brass compositions in concert. Open to all students by audition. Woodwind Ensemble (1, two hours weekly). Performance of Chamber music for woodwinds. Open to all students by audition. Women's Glee (1, three hours weekly). Performance of the finest choral repertoire for women's voices from various periods. Men's Glee (1 , two hours weekly). Performance of the finest choral repertoire for men's voices from various periods. La Mirada Symphony (1, two and a half hours weekly). Open by audition to string, woodwind, and brass performers of outstand­ ing ability. Chamber Music Ensemble (Vocal and Instrumental) (1, two hours weekly). Designed for those interested in chamber literature for various instrumental and vocal ensemble combinations.

A simple course in conducting especially designed to prepare the student to direct congregational singing through actual practice and analysis of each student's performance.

Required of all elementary credential candidates except music majors. Instruction given in fundamentals of music covering the areas of notation, history of music, apprecia­ tion of music, musical forms and style, playing the piano, autoharp, tonette, and rhythm instruments. A survey of ma­ terials used in teaching the singing, rhythmic, listening, playing, and creative activities to children.
