Important theories and principles of chemistry and some of the more important elements and compounds. The labora­ tory work mostly quantitative in nature. Three hours lecture and six hours laboratory. Prerequisite: High School chemistry, chemistry 103, or per­ mission of instructor.

201. QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS. (4)

Principles of qualitative analysis including ionization, oxi­ dation, reduction, separation, and analysis of elements. Two hours lecture and four hours laboratory. Prerequisite: Chemistry 103, 104.

202. QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS. (4)

Principles of quantitative analysis including calculation and laboratory technique in gravimetric and columetric analysis. Two hours lecture and four hours laboratory. Prerequisite: Chemistry 103, 104 or permission of instructor.

301, 302. ORGANIC CHEMISTRY. (4, 4)

Important groups of carbon compounds including the alipha­ tic and aromatic series of organic compounds . Typical re­ action and methods of preparation of important organic compounds; fundamental theories of organic chemistry. Two hours lecture and four hours laboratory. Prerequisite: Chemistry 103, 104. Qualitative and Quantita­ tive Analysis advisable.

402. BIOCHEMISTRY. (5)

Introductory study of fundamental concepts of biochemistry including chemistry of proteins, ammino acids, peptides, car­ bohydrates, lipids, nucleic acid and nucleotides, enzymes, metabolism and energy transfer process. Three hours lecture and four hours laboratory. Prerequisite: Chemistry 103, 104, 301, 302. Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis advisable. MATHEMATICS Objective. The purpose of this department is to provide a back­ ground in mathematics which is needed for further work in edu­ cation, psychology, and science. 51. BASIC MATHEMATICS. (0) Survey of basic arithmetic and algebra concepts. Proficiency in reasoning and computation stressed. Required of all stu­ dents who fail to meet minimum required standards of standards of mathematical ability. (Meets 4 hours per week.)
