First semester, the basic principles of mechanics, wave mo­ tion, and heat. Second semester, a study of light, electricity, magnetism, and atomic structure. Three hours lecture and three hours laboratory. Prerequisite: Credit in any one of the following: Math 103, 104, 111, 121, or permission of instructor. 109. ASTRONOMY. (3) An introductory course in astronomy studying: the earth­ moon system and the planets, stars and stellar systems, nebulae, galaxies, telescopes and their accessories.

110. GENERAL GEOLOGY. (3)

Physical and chemical processes which have changed the earth's features, and an examination of common minerals, rocks and major fossil groups.

:307. MODERN PHYSICS. (3)

Survey of selected topics in atomic, nuclear, and health physics. Not designed for physics or chemistry majors. Prerequisites: Physical Science 104 or 108, or permission of instructor. NURSING Objective. Because Biola College is convinced that there is need for more qualified Christian professional nurses, Biola is continu­ ing to develop its program in general college education and nurs­ ing. This program is five years in length. It will give ample oppor­ tunity for a thorough Christian education, and at the same time offer a sound professional and academic education. The instruction will center in the college as well as in the facilities of an outstand­ ing hospital. Admission Requinments: In addition to meeting the require­ ments for college admission as listed in this catalog, before a stu­ dent may be enrolled in the Department of Nursing, she must have : 1. completed algebra, plane geometry, two years of foreign language, and chemistry in high school. 2. taken and successfully passed the battery of examinations offered by the National League of Nursing for admission to Nurs­ ing Education. 3. taken and successfully passed special physical examinations given in the college.
