Objectives: The Christian Education major is designed to prepare its graduates for ministries in church and para-church agencies. Therefore, at the completion of this major, the student will have: realized his identity in relation to his position in Christ and his spiritual gifts and abilities; developed his gifts and abilities related to Christian ministries; demonstrated the essential knowledge and skills to study Scriptures inductively and to communicate Biblical truths effectively; analyzed the contributions of our heritage in Christian Education and related them to present and future goals; established a basic philosophy of Christian Education which incorporates the Biblical concepts of discipleship and leadership; demonstrated his ability to be sensitive to others as persons , understanding how people function in both individual and group learning experiences; developed and demonstrated his abil ity to function successfully in teaching roles and in leadership and administration roles. Premajor requirement: 200; Psychology 200. Department Major: 30 units, including 301, 302,401,402, 403,404; Education 314; Psychology 301 . Bible 400 should be taken as the Bible elective. Students desiring to enter Christian Education must make application to the department prior to the first semester of the junior year. Enrollment is limited. A minor of 18 units, recommended by the department, may be chosen in a correlated area under departmental advice: e.g. Christian Education skills, psychology, sociology, physical education , or missions. A group minor may be arranged with department consent. Department Minor: 18 units, including 301 , 302, 401. NOTE: Those preparing for seminary should include a language in their study. See a department advisor for details. A course of study leading to the Master of Arts degree is available through Biola's graduate school of theology , Talbot Theological Seminary. Please see the Talbot catalog for details. 200 EDUCATIONAL MINISTRIES OF THE CHURCH (3) Introduction to the field of Christian Education to acquaint the student with its scope, functions , problems, and vocational opportunities. 301 EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION (5) Leadership, administration, and administrative patterns of church-related agencies and the educational program of the local church. Examination and application of major principles to various programs and Christian organizations. Prerequisite: 200 or Physical Education 210 if a camping major. 302 CHRISTIAN EDUCATION OF CHILDREN (5) Practical application and evaluation of the organization and administration, curricula, program planning, methods and audio-visuals employed by the church. Prerequisite: Psychology 301 (may be taken concurrently). 306 CHILDREN'S WORK IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION (2) Organization , materials , and methods used in the Christian Education of Children (Not open to Christian Education majors.) 309 YOUTH WORK IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION (2) Organization, materials, and methods used in the Christian Education of Youth . (Not open to Christian Education majors .) 310 ADULT WORK IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION (2) Organization, materials, and methods used in the Christian Education of Adults. Inductive study applied to Biblical narrative and epistolary literature. 401 CHRISTIAN EDUCATION OF YOUTH AND ADULTS (5)

Principles and practice in the administration and organization of various programs for youth and adults; examination of needs , curricula, programs, methods, and audio-visuals used by church and other agencies; includes worship, counseling, recreation and stewardship. Prerequisite: Psychology 301 (may be taken concurrently).
