Alternate years, offered 1977-78. 321 PRINCIPLES OF SPEECH CORRECTION (3) Survey of types, etiology, and treatment of speech disorders. 326 LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT AND DISORDERS (3) Development of speech and language in children; recognition of disorders and needs; role of the parent and teacher in meeting those needs. 331 MASS MEDIA AND SOCIETY (3) Development, structures, policies and practices of the print media and of the electronic media, and their impact on society and on individuals. 332 WRITING FOR PUBLICATION (3) Non-fiction writing of feature material for newspapers and magazines. Includes the interview, personality sketch, personal experience story and research article. Marketing requirements and techniques. Alternate years , offered 1977-78. 333 WRITING FOR BROADCASTING (3) A laboratory course in writing for radio and television, including formats , music continuity, spot announcements, documentaries and drama. 335 JOURNALISM PRACTICUM (1) Supervised practical experience in writing for and/ or editing The Chimes. Prerequisite: Completion of or current enrollment in 203 or the equivalent. May be repeated. 340 INTRODUCTION TO BROADCASTING (3) Various aspects of radio and television in the United States, including programming, advertising and regulation. Projects in announcing, producing, directing and writing. Field trips to area radio and television stations. 342 INTRODUCTION TO MOTION PICTURE PRODUCTION (3) Principles and techniques of making motion pictures and preparing films, utilizing both lecture and laboratory approaches. Students provide their own Super 8 film. Prerequisite. Consent. Laboratory fee $10.00. 345 WORKSHOP IN PHOTOCOMMUNICATION (2) One section offered each semester upon sufficient demand. Course may be repeated with different content (section title). Areas covered include basic photography, advance color and black and white photography, use of color slides, and photojournalism. Camera required
for most sections. Laboratory fee $10. 351 WORKSHOP IN DRAMA (1-3)
Specialized offerings in drama production. At least one section offered yearly in areas such as: play directing, stagecraft, play production and the drama team. Designed as a laboratory course for students training to participate in drama in churches and schools. Opportunities given for practical experience through the presentation of plays for the public. When feasible , one-act production teams will perform for area churches and organizations. May be repeated with different course content. 354 STUDIES IN BROADCASTING (3) One section offered each year upon sufficient demand covering various aspects of theory and practice of broadcasting. Announcing for radio and television, radio production and directing. May be repeated with different course content. 361 ADVANCED ACTING (3) Development of the actor's individual creativity and expression; applying his techniques to various acting interpretations and characterizations; ensemble playing. Prerequisite: 261. 366 DRAMA IN THE CHURCH (3) An overview of available materials as well as techniques of selecting, staging and directing several types of dramatic presentations for the church and Christian education programs. 401 CREATIVE WRITING (3) The short story form, with practice in techniques of narration , characterization, plot and dialogue in segments and completed stories; requirements for various fiction markets. Alternate years , offered 1977-78. 405 GROUP COMMUNICATIONS (3) Provides the theory and experiences necessary to initiate, develop and maintain effective interpersonal communication skills. Topics include the development and maintenance of trust, verbal and nonverbal expression of feeling , constructive confrontation, and resolving interpersonal conflict. Prerequisite: 105 or consent. 420 STUDIES IN SPEECH PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY (3) At least one section offered each year upon sufficient demand. Course may be repeated with different content (section title). Areas covered include such disorders as aphasia , stuttering, audiology, voice problems, cleft palate, and cerebral palsy.
