The general education requirement for a foreign language for those following a Nursing major may be met by two years of high school language or the first four units of a college language. 101 NURSING PHILOSOPHY (3) Basic concepts, ethics, and legal principles in the practice of nursing; a survey of the nursing needs of adults and children in hospital and community settings at home and abroad; provides a basis for the interpretation of the fundamental issues of nursing and the awareness of resources to meet the needs realistically. 102 EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIP IN NURSING (2) Professional relationships in nursing, including patient-nurse, family-nurse, medical and nursing team relationships, interdepartmental relationships; clinical tours of com­ munity hospitals. 202 FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING (6) The fundamentals of nursing care and the organizational structure of the hospital, with opportunity to practice nursing skills based upon scientific principles in the nurs­ ing laboratory and in affiliated hospitals and medical centers. Three hours lecture, fifteen hours laboratory. Laboratory fee: $15.00. 301 MEDICAL-SURGICAL NURSING I (7) Introduction to Medical-Surgical nursing problems of the adult patient, and methods of intervention, using problem-solving techniques; supervised clinical practice in the Medical-Surgical areas of community hospitals. Four hours lecture, fifteen hours laboratory. Prerequisite: 202. Laboratory fee. $10.00. 302 MEDICAL-SURGICAL NURSING II (6) A continuation of 301. Focus on assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing intervention; designed to promote increasing skill as a clinical nursing practi­ tioner. Three hours lecture, fifteen hours laboratory. Prerequisite: 301. Laboratory fee: $10.00. 401 MATERNAL-CHILD HEALTH I (7) Care of the sick, hospitalized child in acute and long-term rehabilitative settings; the effects of illness and hospitalization on children in various stages of growth and devel­ opment; nurse's role in patient and parent teaching; utilization of community resources. Four hours lecture, fifteen hours laboratory. Prerequisite: 302. Laboratory fee: $10.00. 402 MATERNAL-CHILD HEALTH II (6) Family-centered maternal and child care with emphasis on the nurse's role in family planning, and in satisfying health needs of parents and newborn. Three hours lecture, fifteen hours laboratory. Prerequisite: 401. Laboratory fee: $10.00. 404 PSYCHIATRIC NURSING I (3) Introduction to philosophy, history, and scope of psychiatric nursing: development of current theories and recent adjuncts, e.g., behavorial therapy, reality therapy, and crisis intervention. Prerequisite: 402. 405 PSYCHIATRIC NURSING II (8) Development of skills in one-to-one nurse-patient interaction; in small groups of pa­ tients, in collaboration with interdisciplinary team; and in contributing to a thera­ peutic milieu. Supervised clinical practice in psychiatric nursing areas in available psychiatric and mental health agencies. Three hours lecture, twenty-five hours labora­ tory. Prerequisite: 404.
