Objective. The objective of the courses offered in the field of history is twofold: to acquaint the student with the facts of history, and to create for the student a new understanding of the relationship beween the facts of history and the outworking of the purposes of God in the world. The Social Science Division, in addition to a major in History, offers a divisional major in Social Science. Divisional Major Requirements: 30 units, of which 24 must be upper division, including 18 in History, 6 in Political Science, and 6 from one other field.
ANTHROPOLOGY 301. GENERAL CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY. (3)
An introduction to mankind's culture or whole way of living. The emphasis on the nature of culture; cultural growth in history; the range of cultural phenomena, including material culture, social organization, religion, language, and other related topics. 302. GENERAL PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY. (3) An introduction to human development from earliest times. The study of the origin and antiquity of man. The criteria of race and racial classification; current racial theories and race problems. 303. ENTHNOLOGY. (3) Survey of principal culture types and their distribution; discussion of ethnologi cal problems and a study in the techniques of analyzing a culture. 304. PEOPLES OF AFRICA. (3) Study of the native cultures of Africa south of the Sahara; cultural history and diversity plus problems in cultural adjustment in modern Africa.
ECONOMICS
201. PRINCIPLES OF ECONOMICS. (3) Designed to provide an understanding of economic forces and conditions through a study of such topics as production, exchange, distribution, money, banking, and credit. GEOGRAPHY 301. INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY. (3) A study of the basic physical elements of geography such as climate, land forms, soils, and natural vegetation together with their integrate patterns of world distribution. 302. INTRODUCTION TO CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY. (3) A study of basic cultural elements of geography such as population distribution, general land-use patterns, trade, and their correlation with the physical elements. HISTORY Department Major: 30 units, of which 24 are upper division, including 403, 404, 411, 412, 413, and Political Science 301, 302. Department Minor: 18 units, of which 12 must be upper division. 63
