A study of medieval institutions with special emphasis on the transition in arts, letters, and learning from the medieval to the modern age. (3) A study of the ancient empires of the East and the Greek Penninsula to the defeat of the Greeks by the Romans. Special attention given to art, literature, and political institutions and their subsequent influence upon Western Civilization. 304. ROMAN HISTORY. (3) A study of Roman history from its beginning to the Fall of the Empire. Emphasis upon Rome's part in the preparation of the Mediterranean world for the spread of Christianity, and Rome's contributions to Western civilization. 305, 306. HISPANIC AMERICAN HISTORY. (Z, Z) A survey of Hispanic American history from the Colonial Period to the present. Second Semester: the history of European culture, institutions, and politics from the death of Louis XIV to the collapse of the Napoleonic Empire, (1715-1815). 403, 404. Emphasis on the rise of nationalism, liberalism, international relations, and internal conditions of the major European countries. Second Semester: the history of Europe from the end of the Franco-Prussian War to the outbreak of World War I, (1870-1914).
