STUDENT EMPLOYMENT ThP College maintains an Employment Office for the benefit of students nreding part-time work to defray expenses. While this Office does not guar antee employment, an effort is made to place every needy student. Students who need to work while going to college should plan to arrive several days before registration in order that they may secure the type of work which they desire. The student who finds it necessary to work for the entire amount of his living expenses should plan on extending the time required for his course of study. SCHOLARSHIPS To the extent that scholarship bequests and other funds permit, Biola College gives financial encouragement to promising and worthy students. Two principal aims are the basis for all awards: (1) to encourage scholarly endeavor by p;ifted studPnts, and (2) to aid worthy students who are dependent chiPfly upon their own efforts to secure a college education or could not attend college without such assistance. All awards are made for a maximum period of one year, but may be renewed on the ba sis of satisfactory work. It should be clearly understood that a student's failure to maintain satisfactory scholastic standing during any semester will be sufficient cause for the discontinuance of his award. Biola College is in agreement with the following recommendation of the Association of College Admissions Counselors: "We solicit the co-operation of parents and secondary school officers in discouraging persons who do not need financial aid from competing with needy sturlents for the use of college scholarship funds . To be elected an honor scholar is a rightful ambition of any student irrespective of financial status, but to expect financial consideration when such is not needed is to request a college to take from some needy student his opportunity to attend college." Biola CollPge is in agreement with this policy with respect to all fonns of financial assistance. If a student can attend college without aid from the college, he should neither request nor accPpt such aid and thereby prPvPnt some needy student from receiving help who otherwise could not attend. Application for all scholarships should bP made to the Dean of Students. Rl;inh for this purpose will be furnished upon request by the Office of the Dean of Students. Scholar~hips are awarnPd to sturlPnts of high scholastic achievement. OthPr criteria such as ch;irarter, personalitv, leadership qualities, need, m;irkPn surcrss in gPnPral high school or college activities, special service renrlPrerl on bPlrnlf of the school. and evidence of ability to pursue advanced studies succe~sfullv after graduation are also given careful consideration.
