DESCRIPTION OF COURSES
NUMBERING OF COURSES Courses numbered one to ninety-nine are for students who have deficiencies and do not carry College credit. Courses numbered 100 to 299 are primarily for fresh men and sophomores. Courses numbered 300 to 499 are primarily for juniors and seniors. Sophomores who wish to enroll in courses numbered 300 to 399 must secure the permission of their faculty advisor and the Registrar. Juniors who wish to enroll in courses numbered 4-00 to 499 must secure the same permission. In general, odd numbered courses are given in the fall, and even numbered courses are offered in the spring. The units of credit are indicated by the number in parentheses after each course title. The College reserves the right to withdraw any courses for which there is insuf icient registration. DEPARTMENT OF ART Objective. The completion of this curriculum leads to an undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts. Courses are designed to provide a rich background of art fundamentals, art techniques, and art methods necessary for the teaching and pro fessional artist. Departmental Requirements for a Major in Art. The student majoring in this Department must take the following courses: Art 101, 102, 103, 104, 201, 202, 203, 204, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 401, 402, 4-03, 404, 405, 406, 407, 408, 409, and 410; Education 301 and 302; English 410; Library Science 301; History, two units; Psychology 301; Sociology 202; Bible 301 or two units of Doctrine; Doctrine, two units. 101. INTRODUCTION TO ART. (2) Fundamentals of design and composition in dark and light media, elementary lettering, poster work, sketching, figure drawing, and perspective. Prerequisite for all art courses unless designated otherwise. 102. TECHNIQUES OF ART. (2) Original work and design in survey of color media used in elementary schools. Water color, crayon, chalk, finger painting, advanced lettering, poster work, etc. Prerequisite: Art 101 103. HISTORY OF ART I. (2) A survey of ancient and medieval art epochs. Emphasis placed upon works of architecture, sculpture, painting, and their significance in general world culture. 104. HISTORY OF ART II. (2) Historical and cultural consideration of visual art from Renaissance to the present. Prerequisite: Art 103 110. INTRODUCTION TO THE ARTS. (2) A comparative survey of music, literature, painting, sculpture, and architecture. A study of periods and styles. 201. HANDCRAFT. (2) Surveys of crafts dealing with copper, leather work, mosaics, plastics, woodwork, carving, linoleum block printing, and elementary school techniques in the crafts. 30
