Emphasis is given to the preparation of units of work and methods of instruction at the various grade levels. 309. TEACHING OF ARITHMETIC. (2) The aims, principles, and methods used in developing the teaching of basic number concepts, an understanding of the fundamental processes as n eeded on the elementary level. Materials of instruction examined and constructed. Opportunity for the preparation and presentation of lessons through sociodrama. 310. SCIENCE METHODS. (2) A course designed to help the prospective teacher in developing a science program on the elementary level with emphasis on the practical classroom techniques of experimentation, demonstration, observation and the collection and identification of science objects. 311. PHYSICAL EDUCATION METHODS. (2) El ementary school physical educa tion procedures including postural and rhythmic exercises, fundamentals of games, t echniques covering the simplest primary skills through the seasonal sports, such as baseball, basketball, football , and volleyball. Instruction in the development of a program of physical education on the elementary school level. 312. PRINCIPLES OF SECONDARY EDUCATION. (2) A course designed to give an understanding of the aims, scope, and desirable outcomes of the secondary school. Emphasis placed upon organization, management, and curriculum trends including teaching and testing techniques. 313. MUSIC EDUCATION IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. (2) Purposes and procedures. A study of methods used for presentation of varied musical experiences. Note songs, rhythm, reading songs, creative activities, music appreeiation, dramatizations, and the playing of simple instruments. Consideration of the child voice. Survey of materials. 314. MUSIC EDUCATION IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL. (3) Purposes and procedures. Organization of courses and activities, both choral and instrumental. Music appreciation. Study of methods, techniques, and problems. Survey of materials. 315 . EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY. (3) Nature of the learning process and theories of learning as applied to school practice. Problems of physical, motor, mental, social , and emotional development as found in individual differences. 316. EDUCATIONAL TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS. (3) A course dealing with the use of both mental and achievement tests as found in the public schools at the present time. A brief historic development of tests of general ability, special abilities and aptitudes, achievement tests in the different learning processes, general procedures in scoring and interpreting test results, the computation and use of measures of central tendency, variability and correlation. 317. KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL METHODS. (2) Study and evaluation of the most effective methods to provide for the normal growth of the kindergarten-primary child as evaluated from the emotional, social, physical, and intellectu al standpoints.
