Attendance Regular class attendance is expected of all students. Classes are conducted in a manner that will encourage academic excellence and the growth of Chri st ian char acter. Because of the tremendous variety of class size and purpose, specific require ments in attendance, the final authority for attendance, and any effect that it might have upon grades rest with the individual faculty member. The specific rules for each class are to be made clear at the first sess ion . Leave of Absence Students who are enrolled in Biola College and plan to drop out of school for a semester or for a maximum of one year with intentions of returning to Biola Col lege may request a leave of absence. By filing a leave of absence and paying a deposit of $50, the student will not have to re-apply for admission. The student will be informed about pre-registration and allowed to pre-register for the semes ter he plans to return . Thi s procedure will give him priority a8 a continuing student over new applicants. Pre-Registration Pre-registration for the fall semester is held each year during the month of May. All students are required to pre-register if they plan to return to school in the fall semester. A $50.00 deposit is payable prior to pre-registration. If the student can cels his pre-registration before August 1, $25.00 is refunded. GRADES Quality of course work is graded on the following scale: A indicates outstanding achievement; B, superior; C, average or satisfactory; D, the lowest passing grade; and F, Failure. A grade of pass, P, may be given in the event of acceptable work in certain limited classes. In the event of a pass, no grade point value is given to the student and the grade is not averaged in computing the over-all 1rrade point average. A system of grade points is used to determine a student 's general average or stand ing. Grade points are assigned to grades as follows: A, 4 grade points; B, 3 points; C, 2 points; D, 1 point; F, 0 points. A "W" indicates a withdrawal from a course with a passing grade. Students mu st submit a written petition to the registrar's office with a recommendation from the instructor to withdraw from a course. Where unexcused absences have accrued, petition will be denied. A "WF" (withdrawal failure) is recorded in cases where withdrawa l has not been approved or the student is not doing passing work. A "UW" indicates an unofficial withdrawal. Students who register but do not attend classes are automatically given the grade of "UW" which will influence the grade average the same as an F. 26
