BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE LESTER C. EDDINGTON, Chairman Objectives: The aims of the Biologi­ cal Science curriculum are (1 ) ac­ quainting all students with the rea­ soning processes of the scientific meth­ od as applied in biology, with the ex­ isting principles of biology as they apply to our age of technology, and with the dynamic state of advance in knowledge in biology; (2) supporting the curriculum of majors in other de­ partments (Nursing, P s ychology, Physical Education, Education ) ; (3 ) supplying a strong foundational core curriculum for the major in general Biological Sci e nce, and providing depth within a balanced selection of the major areas within biology. BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE MAJOR REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE The required core curriculum includes Biological Science 101, 202 or 252 , 301, 312, 401 or 452, 408, 411 or 412, and a minimum of 7 elective units; Chemis­ try 105, 106, 301 , 422; Physics 105, 206 or 207; Mathematics 105, 106. Students seeking an elementary teach­ ing credential should fulfill general education science requirement by tak­ ing Physical Science 101 and the fol­ lowing courses to complete the major: Chemistry 105; Biological Science 101, 202 or 252, 301, 312, 401 or 452, 408, and twelve additional upper division units of biology electives approved by major adviser.
