The Nursing Program at Biola College is a basic, baccalaureate program of five academic or calendar years in length, leading to the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing, and qualifies the graduate to write the California State Board examinations to o.btain the licensure R.N. The entire program is conducted on the campus with clinical courses given under the instruction of the college nursing faculty in approximately eight hospitals, public health centers, and schools. The program has been accredited by the Board of Nursing Education and Nurse Registration of the State of California. In addition to meeting the requirements for college admission listed in this catalog, before a student may be enrolled in the School of Nursing (which occurs when she is admitted to Nursing 202, the first clinical course), she must have (1) completed a year and a half of courses, including Nursing 101 and 102, Chemistry 103, Biological Science 204 and 221, with at least a C average; ( 2) passed successfully special physical examinations. Admission R eqiiirements: Students wishing to enroll in a clinical laboratory course (202, 301, 302, 401, 402, 405, 408 ) must complete application forms with the School of Nursing by March 15 for the Fall Semester and October 15 for the Spring Semester. The general education requirement for a foreign language for those following a Nursing major may be met by two years of high school language or the first four units of a college language. 101 NURSING PHILOSOPHY (3) Basic concepts, ethics, and legal principles in the practice of nursing; a survey of the nursing needs of adults and children in hospital and community settings at home and abroad; provides a basis for the interpretation of the fundamental issues of nursing and the development of resources to meet the needs realistically. 102 EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIP IN NURSING (2) Professional relationships in nursing, including patient-nurse, family-nurse, medical and nursing team relationships, interdepartmental relationships. 202 FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING (6) Beginning concepts and skills in relation to the role of the professional nurse. Lec­ ture 3 hours, laboratory 9 hours. All nursing laboratory courses include classroom laboratory instruction as well as instruction in affiliated hospitals. Laboratory fee: $15. 301 MEDICAL/SURGICAL NURSING I (7) Develops ability to provide comprehensive nursing care to medical/surgical patients. Lecture 3 hours, laboratory 12 hours. Prerequisite: 202.
