DIVISION OF SOCIAL SCIENCE

Objectives: The objectives of the So­ cial Science Divi sion are three-fold: to acquaint the student with the enor­ mous body of facts related to the vari­ ous subjects within the division; to aid the student in the interpretation of these facts; and to help the student to use the knowledge gained in adjusting to the problems of life and in becoming a more effective and useful student. The Social Sci ence Division offers five majors. Four of them are depart­ mental, including Business Adminis­ tration, History, Latin American His­ tory, and Sociology. The one divisional major i~ Social Science. Social Sci ence major 1·equirements : 30 un.its beyond genera l education, of which 24 must be upper division; 18 in history or sociology; Political Sci­ ence 301 and 302, or equivalence; and 6 upper division courses in one other field within the Division. Students may take additional units in political science above the stated requirements as well as additional units beyond the six required in one other field. It is recommended that those seeking a teaching credential wi ll fu lfill the requirements in history from the fol­ lowing courses: History 306, 309, 310, 320, 403, 404. It is recommended that those planning a missionary career follow the re­ quirements listed under the Missions Department. It is recommended that a ll those tak­ ing a major in the Social Science divi ­ sion include Economics 201 as a sup­ porting course for their major.
