Academic Standards While a grade of D is accepted as a passing grade in a single course, such a quality of work in general is at no point a criterion of progress from level to level. A mini mum average grade of C is necessary to graduate. Still higher minimums are required before admission to student teaching. Students who transfer units from other institutions must maintain an average grade of C in all work completed at Biola College as a requirement for graduation, and an average grade of C in all work presented for a degree, as well as all work in the major field. Academic Warning: A student whose semester average falls below C (2.0) but whose cumulative scholarship average in Biola College is 2.0 or higher will be placed on academic warning. Academic Probation: Any student whose cumulative scholarship average in Biola College falls below C (2.0) will be placed on academic probation. Probation indi cates a period of trial, and the student must ach ieve better than a 2.0 average the subsequent semester or face t he possibility of being disqualified. A student is required to drop all extra curricular activities, and the academic load will be restricted during this period of probation. Academic Dismissal: A student may be disqualified at any time if his grades are very low in one semester or if he has not achieved minimum grades for two suc cessive semes ters. A di squalified student may apply for readmission only after a full year ha s elapsed. After one year, he may apply for readmission only if evidence by schooling elsewhere indicat es that chances for scholastic success are good . A student who has been twice disqualified may not be readmitted. Academic Load The minimum full-time load is twelve units. A student who is on scholastic pro bation may be limited to twelve units or less depending upon his grade point average. A minimum of ten uni ts must be taken by those living on campus. A unit of credit is generally considered to consist of one class hour (50 minutes) a week for a semester . In physical education activities, laboratory sessions, and in a few other instances, a unit of credit may involve more than one class period a week. Generally a student is limited to seventeen units of classroom work a semester. After the first semester a stuc: ent with a grade point average of A may petition the Regi st rar to carry more than eighteen units. In no case will a student be per mitted to carry more than twenty units each semester. School Honors Students completing their course with a grade point average of 3.25 are gradu ated Cum Laude. Students with a 3.5 average are graduated Magna Cum Laude. Each year elections to membership in the Biola Chapter of Delta Epsilon Chi Honor Society are made from the members of the graduating class who have a scholastic average of 3.5 or better throughout their course. The Delta Epsilon Chi Honor Society was established to give recognition to high scholastic attain ment in Christian colleges and Bible Institutes. 28
