Alternate years, offered 1971-72. 411 CURRICULUM IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION (2) Review of basic principles of curriculum construction and use of representative litera ture in the Christian Education field; includes evaluation and construction of materials for various age groups according to individual needs. Alternate years , offered 1970-71. 412 TECHNIQUES OF COUNSELING (2) Study and evaluation of the counselor and the counseling process ; counseling as it relates to conversion, subsequent growth, leadership counseling, and the educational intentions of the church; reading in special areas of work: vocational guidance, sex education, et cetera . The primary objectives of the doctrine courses are ( 1) to give the student a thorough grasp of all the major doctrines of the Word of God; (2 ) to correlate the whole into one defensible system which will form a solid foundation for the understanding and intelligent use of the Bible ; (3 ) to promote warm Christian experience and spiritual maturity. The approach to all areas of doctrinal study is Biblical rather than philosophical. The method of study is sensibly dis pensational , and the viewpoint is clearly premillennial : Special attention is given to the problems of liberalism and modern cults in their doctrinal aspects. The lecture method of study is followed and reference is made to the Biblical languages. Reading in standard theologica l wor ks is r equired. 301 DOCTRINE OF GOD AND THE BIBLE (3) The doctrine of God, Hi s existence, unity, trinitarian di stinctions, attributes, decrees , and works; the doctrine of the Bible, revelation and inspiration, canonici t y and au thority; the illuminating work of the Holy Spirit; origin and history of the Bible, canonicity, and versions. 302 DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, THE HOLY SPIRIT, AND SALVATION (3) The person and work of the Lord J esus Chri st and of the Hol y Spirit; a ttention given to doctrinal departures in these areas and other themes r ela t ed to salvation. 401 DOCTRINE OF THE CHURCH (3) The doctrine of the Church, its origin , ordinances, and organization, with careful consideration given to denominational distinctives and the theological issues which underlie its mission. (Those preparing for missionary activity should r egister for the course taught by the Missions Department.)
