SCHOLARSHIPS To the extent that scholarship bequests and other funds permit, Biola College g ives finan cial encouragement to promising and worthy st udents. Two principal aims are the basis for all awards: (1) to Pncourage scholarly endeavor by g ifted students, and (2) to aid worthy students who are depen dent chieAy upon their own efforts lo secure a coll ege ed ucation or could not att end college without such assistance. All awards are made for a period of one semester , but may be renewed on the basis of satisfactory work. It should be clearly understood that a student's failure to maintain satisfactory scho lastic standing during any semester will be suffic ient cause for th e discontinuance of his award. Biola College is in agreement with the following recommendation of the Associat ion of College Admissions Counselors: "We so li c it the co-opera tion of parents and secondary school officers in discouraging persons who do not need financial aid from competing with needy student s for th e use of coll ege scholarship funds. To be elected an honor scholar is a rightful ambit ion of any student irrPs peclive of financial status, but to expec t finan cia l co nsideration wh en s uch is not needed is to request a college to take from some needy st ud ent his opportunity to attend college." Biola College is in agreement with this policy with respect to all forms of financial assistance. If a student can attend coll ege without aid from the college, he should nei ther req uest nor accept such aid and thereb y prevent some needy s tud ent_from receiving help who otherwise could not attend. Application for all sc holarsh ips should be made to the Dean of Students. Blanks for thi s purpose will be furnish ed upon request by the Office of the Dean of Students.
