STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Twice each year, fall and spring, the Student Body arranges for an evening of Open House at which time the friends of the school and especially prospective students are invited to tour the buildings and become acquainted with the details of school life. STUDENT PUBLICATIONS The Student Body sponsors two student publications: a bi-weekly news paper, the BIOLA CHIMES, and a yearbook, the BIOLAN. These serve to keep a record of school life, to inte rest young people in the College as a place of healthy activity, and to inform the friends of the school of items of current interest. KING'S DAUGHTERS AND BIOLA MEN The women of the school are bound together in spiritual fellowship as daughters of the King. The King's Daughters, the women's organization, exists for the purpose of promoting fellowship and friendship. To this end they plan various means of getting acquainted. and conduct an evening meet ing twice a month. The corresponding organization for the men of th e school is known as Biola Men. Their program is similar to that of the King's Daughters. ATHLETICS Intercollegiate athletics at Biola Coll ege provide men and women with interes t and ability in athletics an opportunity to compete with other insti tutions of hi gher education whose size and athletic policies are similar. Inte rco ll egiate competition for men is cond ucted in the following sports: baseball, basketball. cross-cou ntr y, soccer. tennis. track and field . Women compete with other co ll eges in basketball and softball. Intramural act ivities are organized in both team and individual sports for men and women who do not have the interest , ability, or time for varsity teams. but who desire well planned physical activity and sports competition. RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS All students must li\·e in the college dormitory during the course of their training, with certain possible exceptions as fo ll ows: 1. The privilege of outside residence is granted to married students. Such stud ents are responsible for th eir own housing. 2. If the home of the stud ent is within the Los Angeles Metropolitan area and it should otherwise be imposs ible to attend, he may enter the college and reside at home for half the duration of his course. 3. If employment of a man requires outside residence this must be g ranted from the Dean of Students. 4. Should other circumstances exist wh ereby it is clearly not feasible for the student to reside in th e coll ege, special permission to live elsewhere must be obtain ed from the Dean of Students. 28
