420. COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. (2) A study of the role of the teacher in guidance; techniques of counsel ing; a consideration of the total guidance program of the elementary school. Prerequisites: Ed. 301, 303, Psych . 301. The objective of this department is to provide instruction in the organization of personal liLraries and files , to provide the basic training for library work in school and church library situations, and to give a working knowledge of bibliographic and basic literature in the various disciplines usually included in liberal arts education and in the specialized curricula of Biola College. Skill tests are given in methods courses. Requirements for a Minor in Library Science. Eighteen units are required for a minor in Library Sci ence. Students who complete the minor receive a Certificate. Education 302 and English 410 may be credited toward this minor, provided they are not credited toward other majors or minors.

301. FILING AND INDEXING. (1) A study of the handling of pamphlets, clippings, notes, and other non book materials. Indexing of these materials, together with analytical indexing of books and periodica ls . Designed for pastors and Christian workers, as well as being a specialized course for Library Science students. 302. BINDING AND REPAIR. (1) A study of binding techniques from the beginning of book making, and of modern bindery practiee. Laboratory work in types of repair and binding that can be done with simple equipment. 303. CHURCH LIBRARIANSHIP. (1) Deals with the problem of organizing, operating, and publicizing of the church library, including the audio-visual center. Visits to church libraries, and laboratory work. 304. HISTORY OF BOOKS AND PRINTING. (2) A survey of the whole development of writing and writing materials, manuscripts, printed books, typographic forms , and book design and production. 307. INTRODUCTION TO LIBRARY WORK. (2) A basic course for school and institutional library work on the secondary, collegiate, and graduate levels. Parallels Course 312 in some areas. 42
