Voice. The student should be able to sing on pitch a standard song in English and read a simple song at sight. An elementary knowledge of the piano and of the rudiments of music is required. Department Major in Applied Music. 82 units, of which 44 are upper divi­ sion, 8 are music activity and ensemble, and 34 are applied, of which 32 are on the principal instrument. Department Major in Church Music. 71 units of which 40 are upper divi­ sion, 8 are music activity and ensemble, and 12 are applied. The applied are to be taken as follows: 1. Organ: 8 units of organ, 2 of voice, 2 electives 2. Piano: 8 units of piano, 2 of voice, 2 electives 3. Voice: 8 units of voice, 2 of piano, 2 organ 4. An orchestral instrument : 8 units of the principal instrument, 2 of voice, 2 of piano or organ. Department Major in Music Education. 83 units, of which 54 are upper division, 8 are music activity and ensemble, and 12 are applied, including 4 of piano and 4 of voice. Required collateral courses are Psychology 301, Education 301, 302, 303, 305, or 306, 307, 309, 312, 314, and 403. (This major , which presently leads to both the General Elementary Certificate and the Special Secondary Certificate in Music, is undergoing complete revision due to changes in the state credential program. Therefore, it is open or.ly to students who have completed their Sophomore year by July, 1963, and who will be able to complete all degree requirements by September, 1966.) Non-professional Pre-major Requirement. 6 units of Theory.. Non-professional Department Major. 24 upper division units, including 4 units of History, 7 of Individual Instruction, 2 of Choral Conducting, 2 of Choral Techniques, 2 of Voice Techniques, 3 of Theory, and 4 of Activity and Ensemble. (Since this major is currently undergoing revision by the State Department of Education, the requirements may be altered in keeping with directives from the Department of Education, State of California.)
