Objective. The objective of the courses offered in the field of history is twofold: to acquaint the student with the facts of history , and to create for the student a new understanding of the relationship between the facts of history and the outworking of the purposes of God in the world. The Social Science Division. in addition to a major in History, offers a divisional major in Social Science. Divisional Major Requirements: 30 units. of which 24 must be upper division, including 18 in History, 6 in Political Science. and 6 from one other field. ANTHROPOLOGY 301. GENERAL CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY. (3) An introduction to mankind's culture or whole way of living. The emphasis on the nature of culture; cultural growth in history; the range of cultural phenomena. including material culture, social organization, religion, language. and other relatea topics. 302. GENERAL PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY. (3) An introduction to human development from earliest times. The study of thC:' origin and antiquity of man. The cr itl"ria of race and racial classi­ fication; current racial theories and race problems. 303. ETHNOLOGY. (3) Survl"y of principal cu lture types and their distribution; discussion of ethnological problems and a study in thl" techniqul"s of analyzing a culturl" . 304. PEOPLES OF AFRICA. (3) Study of the native cultures of Africa south of the Sahara; cultural history and diversity plus problems in cultural adjustment in modern Africa. ECONOMICS 201. PRINCIPLES OF ECONOMICS. (3) Designed to providl" an und!"rstanding of economic forcl"s and condi­ tions through a study of such topics as production. exchange. distribu­ tion. monl"y, banking, and credit.
