O trik ing Stories of God’s W ork ingO O ----------- GATHERED THIS MONTH FROM BIOLA WORKERS------------ O

Found a New Father-Confessor I N one of the hospital wards a young lady student of the Insti tute found a patient who was a Catholic. She visited her sev eral times, finding her friendly and responsive. Then a Bible Institute student doing visitation work, definitely presented the claims of Jesus Christ as the Only Mediator and Saviour. The woman accepted Him, but so quietly that the student was not sure she understood th e . step she was taking, so asked her, “What will you say when the priest comes and wants you to confess to him?” Very quietly the woman replied, “Oh, he was here last week and I told him then that I was confessing tp God for myself, that I did not need him to do it for me.” Then our student realized that the Holy Spirit had been working, that the seed sown was growing, and that this babe in Christ, through the power promised in Acts 1 :8, had met a difficult situation and without earthly help had 'conquered. Thus to the student as Well as to the young convert the absolute truth of Phil. 4 :13 had been verified. —o— Seed Sown In Japanese Hearts W HILE a B. I. student was dealing with the members of the crew of a Japanese ship in Los Angeles harbor, Mr. Pearson, our worker with Seamen, put in his time with the officers. A chief officer, when asked what he thought of Jesus, replied, “Jesus is all right, but so many Japanese Christians are so mean and unkind that I care very little about Christian ity.” He wanted to know if this were true of American Chris tians. Mr. Pearson confessed that there were many halfway Christians, but pointed out that one counterfeit coin does not cause us to discard all others. There are stages in the Chris tian’s life. One must become a child by birth and then grow. The following day the ship was visited again. Two other officers were taken to the Bible Institute. They saw the splendid student body and were greatly surprised. One remarked: “All studying to be servants of God!” Mr. Pearson explained how the plant was built and had grown through prayer to the one- God who answers prayer. That evening Mr. Pearson took one of these officers to the Japanese church near San Pedro. There he was dealt with per sonally by some of. the workers, and gave his heart to Christ. “Paul planted, Apollos watered; but God gave, the increase.” —o— A Good Word From a Correspondence Student P LEASE allow me space into your beautiful columns to state to my Christian friends what the Lord has done for me,” writes a Correspondence student. “Although I was trained . by Christian parentage to love and to serve the .Lord as my Sav iour, and Redeemer; yet there still remained in my heart a desire for the pleasures of the world, dancing, and many social enter tainments. While just in my teens my greatest ambition and aim in this life, was to be that, of a scientist, in order that I might have received the world’s fame. But thanks be to God, He saw where I would have been ruined and lost for hell and eter nity and He saved me by His shed blood that flowed on Calvary. It was in the year 1916 that these wonderful words brought such deep conviction to my soul. ‘For God so loved the world, etc.’ As this chosen ambassador of God, Rev. James V. Ouamina,

based upon this textual sermon with enthusiasm, I could no longer delay but simply yield to the crucified One. “As I advanced in grace and love for God, there came an impression, for the preaching of the glorious Gospel. I never felt before, so impressed; but I saw through the Bible, that my Saviour had work for me to do. I came across your wonderful Institute in the golden west and decided to take correspondence lessons from there. “I have proved the various Courses that I have passed to be helpful and fascinating. The manner of expression is arranged in these Courses in such a didactic manner, that one’s self whose brain is; not foggy is sure to grasp these wonderful courses, that have been picked out by these eminent teachers of the Institute of Los Angeles. h - ‘Yours in the Master’s service, ■ “Gerwohd L. Caddell, “Trinidad, B.W.I.” —°‘— Gathering of French Evangelical Christians T WENTY-ONE people coming from France; Belgium, French Switzerland, and French Canada, gathered on the fifth of June in the Bible Institute to study God’s Word and to sing together in their beautiful mother tongue the praises of Him Who has redeemed us and made us one in Christ Jesus our Lord. Very few knew each other before this meeting, but all soon felt the spiritual bond which unites hearts. How sweet the good old French hymns sounded! Tears filled many eyes! One old gentleman with a husky voice confided that he had not heard those hymns sung for over thirty years. An opportunity was given for testimonies; and it refreshed all hearts>|o hear of how God is working among the French- speaking people. Recently six people in one family have been brought to a saving and joyful knowledge of salvation. A French brother gave a good message on the text: “But Whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.” It was decided that during the summer months this gather ing of all French Evangelical Christians would continue, God willing. Miss Jeane .L, Rollier is our French worker, who desires to get in touch with French people in the vicinity of Los Angeles, —o— Why Attend Bible Classes? To Help Others 1 I N one of the Bible classes conducted by one of our Bible Women, two women were noted as being particularly alert in taking notes on the lesson, securing all references with abso lute accuracy. The teacher was pleased that they were caring for the pi» manent placing of these lessons. However, a little later she learned with great joy that behind these efforts was something deeper than the .mere preservation for their own profit of the notes. Each woman was the mother of two children from’the age of twelve to fifteen, and once each week these mothers and their children met together for a real Bible study, using the notes taken at the class the previous week. The young people are greatly interested 'in the study, and pride them selves on the grades they are able to make at the frequent exam-
