At length he seemed to form a new resolution. He went to a trunk and tak ing from it a package of books, gave the books to Dr. Hall, saying, “Burn these books, lest they fall into other hands, for they have brought my soul to the verge of hell.” He received the Doctor’s promise and his mental anguish passed away. He died apparently in the faith of Christ. Alas for the multitude of books, mag azines and papers which have poisonous serpents between the leaves.

Poisonous Books Dr. John Hall tells an instance of the dangerous influence of bad books. Dr. Hall was called after midnight to the bedside of a dying man, whom he found in great distress of mind. The Saviour was presented in His suf ficiency and willingness to save them to the uttermost that, come unto God by Him, and the throne of grace was earn estly entreated in his behalf. Again and again the sufferer rose and kneeled in prayer himself.

W. D. Blessing Company are the Amer ican agents for the London publishers of this new and anonymous' volume, which we are happy to commend as it contains a wealth of short, illustrative Gospel material that will be of great ser vice to teachers and preachers. It is a book which sets out in plain language the wondrous possibilities and privileges of the, Christian life, and is especially en couraging to the soul-winner. It will be a good book to put into the hands of any who are longing for the rest and peace of the pardoned soul. The price is $1.25. —K. L. B. —o— Five New Booklets B y W. B ell D awson The Bible League of London is the publisher of two splendidly put up book lets by W. Bell Dawson, M.A., D.Sc., while the B. I. Colportage Association produces three more by the same author. We have already referred to the booklet, “The Inspired Bible and Human Opin ion,” and have used in these columns an article made up from its gages. It is a conclusive answer to the modern notion that the Bible is merely a record of the .evolution of religion. “The Bible and the Antiquity of Man” is the second of the Bible League publications, and fur nishes a satisfactory reconciliation of Bible chronology and archaeology. Dr. Dawson is fully qualified to write on the ‘ subject, being a specialist in geology, and laureate of the Academy of Sciences, Paris. “Evolution Contrasted with Scripture Truth”) (40c) is another contribution to the evolution discussioh. He takes the position that evolution, as held by many today, is incompatible with the vital doc trines of Christianity. He shows, first, what evolution is, and that if its claims ' are to be maintained, it must explain the development of all that exists from pri mary material to life and intelligence. He proceeds to show that in the realm of life, there is no evidence of evolutionary change in the great world of one-celled creatures, where it is most to be expected and could best be observed. Over against all this guesswork, he shows the reason ableness of the foundational doctrines of Christianity. This is an excellent book let to set young people to thinking on a new line. “Forethought in Creation” is a booklet designed to give one an intelligent idea of how' things come to be as they a re; show ing that the Creator did not work at ran dom, or cause life to begin in unsuitable surroundings, or leave His creatures to struggle to become fit to live. “The Scriptures and the Mistakes of the Crit ics” is another booklet of the same size (price probably 10 or 15 cents). Its value is in showing how misleading the critical spirit is in dealing with the Scripture, and in making clear the methods by which they reach their conclusions.—K. L. B.
