Hymns From the Heart “Hyrtins From the Heart” is a recent compilation of sacred songs, put up in book form by Mrs. James Henry Larson, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. We believe it will be gladly received. It contains late songs by such writers as Robert Harkness, Herbert G. Tovey, Gordon Hooker, together with other pop ular favorites now used extensively by Young People’s Societies and Sunday schools.^fR. D. The Fact of Prayer B y J o h n E .‘ W is h art , D.D., LL.D. There are innumerable books on the subject of prayer, and here, we believe, is another that will prove to be most valu able to many. Its point of approach is not the usual one, for it is not primarily a devotional work. The author assumes that prayer is a fundamental fact of our natures and then proceeds to show the certainty of the great truths of the spir itual realm which it presupposes; that the instinctive needs of our souls are ex- pressedfein genuine worship, and that Christianity, built upon the person and work of the divine Christ, is the sufficient, universal and final religion. He con cludes that supplication on the basis of God’s redemptive plan, is the only secret of victory over evil within and without. The problems of prayer are discussed, and the relations of prayer to sin, suffer ing, and healing are thoroughly taken up. Dr.:-Melvin G. Kyle writes the foreword •of this book, the publisher of which is Revell. The price is $1.75.—K. L. B. — o — Christ, the Interpreter of the Father B y W m . H oste , B. A. John Ritchie, of Scotland, is publisher of this new book by Dr. Hoste, whose writings are always most acceptable to Bible lovers. It will sell in this country for $1.00. The author shows our Lord revealing thé Father in the world, in the scenes of sin, joy, suffering, need, contra diction and mourning. He shows Him in the midst of His own, as the Comforter, Teacher and Intercessor. There is no danger of having too many books con cerning Jesus Christ, so long as they hold firmly to the teachings of Scripture con cerning Him, for there is no subject so attractive to the believer as that of the Person of Christ. George Goodman, in the foreword of this book, well says : “Mr. Hoste writes with the precision of a true scholar and with the adoration of a wor shipper. His book is chiefly for the heart.’^ K . L. B. This book, coming from Pickering and Inglis, London, comprises a series of striking incidents and short, telling arti cles, setting forth the good news of sal vation. We wish more of our American Christians would take to reading books of this kind, which, for the most part, have been produced across the waters. Here are bits of biography and interesting stories concerning great men of God, that make most wholesome reading for any Christian. The preacher should find much helpful material in this book for illus tration. Price $1.00.—K. L. B. Whither Bound? B y A lexander M arsh all
