THE SCHOOL OF SACRED MUSIC

The demands fo r the finer training of Christian musicians to fill the important places of service encouraged the Bible Institute of Los Angeles to create the School of Sacred Music. The School of Sacr ed Music prepar es Christian musicians for service as Ministers of Music in churches at home or abroad; instrumental or vocal soloists ; choir, band, or orchestra leaders ; composers and a rrangers ; teachers of music in Bible Insti tutes, Ch r istian Schools and colleges. There a re two courses, namely, the three-year Bible Institute Music Course leading to a diploma; the four-year Bible College Course earning the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music.

THE MUSIC DIPLOMA

The Bible Institute off ers the music diploma through the School of Sacred Music af ter the completion of the three-year prescribed course of 101 units.

THE BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE (MUSIC MAJOR)

The four-year cour se, which is the three-year diploma course with one added yea r , leads to the A.B. degree in music. I t carries 128 un its, plus a thes is or recital.

MUSICAL ORGANIZATIONS

THE CORONATION CHOIR. The Choir of approximately thirty-two voices, is the official Institute choi r, which sings the classics and hymns of the church, emphasis being placed on the spiritual inter pretation of music. FRESHMEN CH OIRS. Incomi ng students a re assigned to either the Male Choir or the Ladi es Lyri c Choi r for one year. These large groups appear at special school funct ions, and at Youth for Christ rall ies. Thi s musical expression gives all Bible Inst itute students an opportuni ty to discover thei r own musical abilit ies. THE BAND. Symphonic and ma rtial music and band arrangements of hymns of the Church form the r epertoi re of the uni fo rmed Institute Band. It appears at many of the school functions, and presents two band concerts as well as two annual tours. PSALMI ST STRING QUARTET. One of the expressions of music is the Psalmist S tring Quar tet, composed of fi rs t violin, second violin, viola, and cello. The classics of chamber music, as well as carefully chosen hymns, a re used. This group appears on programs fitted to th is type of musical interpretation. 66
