INSTRUMENTS AVAILABLE FOR STUDENT Practice Instruments are available for student use at nominal fees. PIANOS. There are twenty pianos for practice, in addition to ten teaching studio pianos . ORGANS. There are three organs available for practice: one of the latest Concert Hammonds, one Baldwin electric, and the two-manual pipe organ in the main auditorium. BAND AND ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTS. The School possesses one or more each of the standard band and orchestral instruments, which may be used for practice. PIANO ACCORDIONS. The Institute owns three piano accordions which may be used for practice purposes.

A study of the major and minor scales, intervals, triads, the dominant seventh chord, the dominant ninth chord, and nonharmonic tones. Exercises in four part writing and the harmonization of melodies. Credit, three hours. HARMONY II. A study of the secondary seventh chords and their use, and simple modulation to related keys. Commencing with the simplicities of the various rhythms used in music, the student is prepared in the fundamentals of the conductor's art. The course consists of lecture material, demonstration, and individual recitations. Credit, two hours. CONDUCTING II. The introduction of larger forms of music, such as simple church anthems. Simple cantatas . The practice of divided beats and unusual rhythms. Personal recitations. Credit, two hours. MUSIC ORIENTATION. A one semester course for music majors who have not had the prerequisite for the study of Harmony I and Solfeggio. Credit, one hour. 68
