CHURCH MUSIC AND ADMINISTRATION. A theoretical course cover ing the necessary approaches to the administrative duties of the minister of music in the church or the teacher or director of music in church schools. Embraces all maintenance of all musical organizations in churches, salary scales, budgets, and discoveries of new approaches to church music problems. Credit, two hours. PRACTICE TEACHING. In practice teaching, candidates for the Degree must spend at least one semester under supervision in some school. A report of the teaching is to be sent to the Director, who locates and makes the assign ments. Credit, two hours.

408 THESIS OR RECITAL. A thesis is to be written by the candidate for the Degree. The subject is to be chosen by the student and approved by the thesis committee. A candidate for the Degree must give a senior recital in the major subject. For theory majors the rendition of original compositions may take place of a recital 409-410 SCHOOL MUSIC METHODS. Gives an approach to teaching music in the day school, using the recognized methods authorized by the State Board of Education for the Elementary grades and for the High School. Credit, two hours each semester.

CHOIR AND SCHOOL OBSERVATION. A supervised course for music majors. Observations are made through visits to schools and churches, and written reports presented to the Director of the course. Credit, one hour.
415,416 ORCHESTRATION. Teaches the range, transposition, and other character istics of all orchestral instruments, as well as practical arranging for the various combinations of the string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Credit, two hours each semester. BAND. The purpose of the Band is to give the student adequate experience in ensemble playing and to provide an organization in which standard symphonic band literature is played. Credit, two hours each semester. CORONATION CHOIR. The official school choir, composed of thirty or thirty-six selected voices for a study and performance of the classics and hymns. Its work is both accompanied and a cappella, singing in four, six, and eight parts. A study of the art of interpretation in all its phases. Credit, two hours each semester.
APPLIED MUSIC COURSES VOICE
FIRST YEAR. Fundamentals of tone production; song preparation. Application of these principles in simple songs. Stage presence, poise, program building, musicianship and its importance; methods of choosing worthwhile song literature are studied. One group of three or four songs ( to be chosen by the instructor) is memorized. Hymns and Gospel songs are studied, with emphasis laid upon the better class of material in this category. 70
