The facility is uniquely designed as a tool for training that will enable FDNY’s elite force of specialized rescue workers to stage and simulate a wide
range of emergency condi- tions in, on and around the building. Several green ele- ments incorporated into the design include: a green roof to help mitigate storm water runoff from the site, a geo- thermal HVAC system and solar water-heating system to reduce energy use, and 100% LED lighting with motion sensors to reduce electricity usage. 1200 Intrepid at the Philadelphia Navy Yard is the newly completed precast concrete work of art designed by world-renowned starchitect Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). The front entrance façade gently curves inward while stretching outward creating a startling and gravity-defying visual that mimics the curved bows of the nearby battleships. The unique engineering requirements of the proj- ect meant that the gravity loads flowed directly to the ground and were not tied to the steel frame. Almost every piece of the front entrance façade is unique. This very complicated project presented a challenge that required an innovative solution using technical, engineering and creative exper- tise, and would not have been possible without the use of BIM and 3D modeling. Jersey City, NJ — Cervelli Real Estate & Property Management announces the off market sale of 11 Zabriskie St. in the Heights section of Jersey City. The seller, who is a li- censed realtor, was looking to sell quickly in order to fulfill a 1031 obligation. Under a time crunch, we knew the expertise of Cervelli would be critical, and despite the fact of being a realtor, called and asked if we could help. Ironically enough, another client of the firm had just lost a deal, and needed to find a replacement. Within a matter or 36 hours, Cervelli Real Estate was able to find a buyer and negotiate acceptable terms to all parties. The transaction closed 30 days later. n
