DON'T LET PAIN PUT YOU ON THE SIDELINES!

There is nothing more exciting than taking on a new challenge, sport or activity. For most of us, the thrill of accomplishing a physical goal is what we live for. However, are you prepared for it? The term “weekend warrior” means a person who doesn’t really train for what they are doing; they just go out and do it on the weekend. How do most injuries occur? Most sports injuries occur from ill-prepared individuals who just jump into the activity without first increasing their strength, endurance and flexibility. Your muscles, tendons, ligaments and other tissues need to be warmed up to work properly. They take enormous strain during running and sports activities. Therefore, if they are not in top condition, they are more prone to injury. Injuries increase as you age… If you think back to when you were in your late teens, you could go into a full sprint no problem, take a flying leap and do a whole lot without the

slightest thought about it. As you get older, your tissues become less elastic and in fact a little “drier”. When your muscle, tendon and ligament tissues have enough water, they are supple and stretchy, allowing you to do a lot of activities. Keep yourself hydrated and stretch often to maintain

elasticity in your muscles. Before and after

Knowing the right exercises to prepare for fitness activities is key. Our physical therapy experts have years of experience rehabilitating people after injuries and returning them pain-free to the activities they enjoy. What some people might not know is that physical therapists put specific exercise plans together based on your needs to prevent injury. If you do start to experience pain with activities, Rebound Fitness & Rehabilitation can get you back to enjoying your activities pain-free. Athlete Success Spotlight

"I met Greg for the first time in 8th grade. Although I was involved in many different sports, I was referred to Rebound Fitness by a teammate frommy swim team. A snowball effected started to occur, and many swimmers began coming in for workouts or rehab. I originally came in to get help for different pains and injuries I was experiencing, and after a week or so of working with Greg and his staff, my pain would begin to dwindle. After the first year of doing physical therapy, I transitioned into working out at Rebound and saw the results as quick as the current season. During my sophomore year of high school, I placed 1st and 2nd at events during the IHSA Swimming State Championships. This was a major jump from my freshman year, during which I didn’t qualify for finals. The following year, I was overly confident about my ability to win and my motivation to put in the work decreased. I worked out at Rebound less than half the amount my junior year compared to my sophomore year and my performances at the state meet were affected as a result. I got 2nd in both events and left wanting much more. No later than a few weeks after the meet, I was back at Rebound ready to put in the work with Greg and Rennie. I came in no less than 3 times a week for 7 to 8 months. I gained a strong base- specifically targeting my core and overall endurance- to make sure I was prepared and in the best position possible for my Senior year. I was able to finish my high school career placing 1st in both my events and setting a state record by 2 seconds in one of the fastest
