S U N D A Y SCHOOL continued of the folly of going against Ramoth- gilead. In summary, the prophecy was to the effect that Israel would be defeated, Ahab slain, but Israel would return home in peace. Note the word scattered in verse 17. It tells the tragic story of the ill- fated venture. One great lesson needs to he learned from this story and that is that one sure word from God is worth a thou sand uncertain words from wicked men. The Test of a True Prophet vv. 26-28a King Ahab showed his rebellious spirit by commanding that God’s prophet be put in prison. But the latter said that surely God’s judgment would fall upon the king and it would he evident that he was a true prophet by the fulfillment of his prophecy. “ If thou return at all in peace, the Lord hath not spoken by me” (v. 28a). (Cp. Deut.. 18:20-22.) God never makes any mistakes when He proph ecies through His servants! Helps For the Children Micaiah Stands For the Right 1 Kings 22:1-40 Memory Verse: "What the Lord saith unto me, that will I speak" (1 Ki. 22:14). The king of Judah and the king of Israel wanted to make war against the king of Syria. They called four hundred prophets tq ask them if God would bless them in this war. The prophets all told them to carry out their plans. When the kings asked if there were any other proph ets, someone told them of Micaiah, a man who was willing to speak God’s message regardless of the cost. The messenger who went to call Micaiah asked him to agree with the other prophets that it was God’s plan for the two kings to make war against Syria. Bravely Micaiah replied, “ As the Lord liveth, what the Lord saith unto me, that will I speak.” When M i caiah told the kings that God would not he with them if they went to war against Syria, one of the kings hit him upon the- cheek and had him placed in prison until he returned from the war. Ahab, the wicked king about whom we have studied for several weeks, was one of the two kings to whom Micaiah gave God’s message. He disobeyed God, again, and went to battle. A soldier killed Ahab with a bow, thus ending his wicked reign. May 30, 1954 Discovering Spiritual The Scripture passage chosen for this week’s study is short but contains a vital message. Nothing is more important for the believer than that he should discover the unseen spiritual resources available to him. Too often our eyes are blind to the dynamic forces within, around, and above us ready to overcome our weaknesses and enemies and give us the victory. The memory selection for this lesson presents the main idea: “ If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31). John in his First Epistle has also suggested this great thought: “ Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (4:4). Let the teacher stress this great idea.
