near to God. I’ve been listenin’ over the radio” (he mentioned a pro gram that featured a bloodless doc trine) , “ but I dunno . . “ Seems like you can’t know what to believe these days,” the woman put in. “ The church takes your money, and what do you get? Why, Mrs. Jones gave three thousand dol lars— ” The visitor p ray ed inaudibly: “ Please, Lord, keep the door of my lips right now—for Thy glory.” Aloud she said: “ Aren’t we for getting little Jewel altogether? We haven’t said a word to the dear child.” Love lighted the grandparents’ faces. “ Jewel, dear, would you like to see what I brought with me, just for you?” The visitor sat down on the low est step, and Little Five-Year-Old snuggled close to her. “ It‘s a book without words.” “ Tell me!” the ch ild begged eagerly. From the book’s colored pages — black, red, white, green, and gold— the stranger “ read” the story of re demption. From an open Testament she found precious, convincing words that two adult listeners drank in avidly. The grandparents crowded closer and closer to the open Book, so that they might read the verses for themselves about sin (Rom. 3:23), about grace (Eph. 2:8, 9), about believing (Acts 16:31), about receiving (John 5:24). “ Is it as simple as thatl” the woman breathed. “ I ain’t never heard it plain like that before,” her husband added. “ Lady, God sent you; there ain’t no doubt in my mind about that.” “ Then will you—each of you—re ceive the Lord Jesus Christ as your own personal Saviour?” Little Jewel looked up. “Yes, ma’am,” she said politely. Her grasp of the great purposes of salvation may have been limited, but her obe dience to what she understood was complete. “ I’ll receive Him.” Grandfather’s response was thoughtful, earnest. “ And so will I,” his wife declared. “ And there’ll be prayer in this house again — after this,” asserted the man of the house. “ Let’s pray now,” the visitor of fered.
