through with Israel, but true to His prophetic Word, the nation has been regathered. Still another interesting sign is the tremendous drive we see today for world government. This is being headed up in Europe through what is known as the European Eco nomic Community or the common market. While we should not overlook another fulfillment of prophecy which is in the tremendous ecumenical drive for world religion. Protestant leaders are seeking to merge with themselves, as well as conducting numerous dia logs with other groups aimed at one great world religion. A noted English theologian was once asked, “How do you know that the coming of the Lord is near?” He replied with this apt illustration, “The other night, I attended the perform ance of Handel’s ‘Messiah.’ Suppose someone came in after the rendition had been going on for two hours or more, and asked, ‘How long will this take?’ I would tell him, ‘About 20 minutes.’ He might reason, ‘How can you be so sure? It has been going on
for so long already; it might take an other three or four hours, or more?’ I would reply, ‘Oh, no. Don’t you re member that choral number back there and that tenor solo? My friend, we are getting near the end, I know, because I have the score in front of me.’ ” Yes, we know Christ is coming soon because we have the Score, the Bible, before us. “Even so come Lord Jesus.” We do not believe that any Scrip ture is yet to be fulfilled before the coming of Christ for the Church, made up of all true born-again believers. After this time, the antichrist will be fully revealed, spoken of in II Thessa- lonians 2. Then, a great body of Scrip tures will be fulfilled leading through the Tribulation to the Millennial king dom to eternity. There is only one thing between us and the Rapture and that is the “shout” (I Thess. 4:13-18). Q . The Great Tribulation, technically speaking, is actually during the last three and a half years of the seven year period. It is known in Daniel as the time of God’s indignation which shall befall the children of Israel. The antichrist will appear right at the beginning of the seven years. Q . As in every study of a specific verse it is vital for one to get a com plete picture of the context in which the statement is found. All through this wonderful epistle the Apostle tells us, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the meaning of suffering in the believer’s life. He points out that there are two ways for one to suffer. One can come because of our faith in Christ while the other results in the fact that there is something wrong in the life because of sin. While this verse applies today it also has a future meaning. It fits in with I Corinthians 26
