concept of God as well. Then that's why I started to work on the Anselmian concept of God, being a great being concept of God.
Diotima: A lot of students are very doubtful about studying philosophy, even if they want to, so how would you respond to this doubt? Were you ever doubtful?
Dr. Nagasawa: I was quite naive. I was super excited about philosophy; I didn't care too much about my career. I just thought if I don't study it, I will regret it. Many people say, “Oh, you should study science or business or something else”, but I just wanted to study philosophy. And I don't regret it, because if I were to study something else, I would always be wondering, “What if I studied philosophy instead of business?” You know, I often tell young people, whether it is philosophy or anything, you should pursue what you really love. Because when you do something that you really love, you don't find it as some kind of burden. If you have a job, you really enjoy, it is not like a job. I still feel like, how could you pay me to do something I really love? I feel really privileged because I can read and write and attend conferences, meet nice people, and interesting people sharing academic interests… and if I get paid, that's great. If you have a job, you really love, then it won't feel like a job. How can you pay me to do something I really love? You know, I read and write, and I speak to interesting people with similar interests; it's really great.
Diotima: What is the relationship between your views and your philosophical views? How do you look at the world?
Dr. Nagasawa: I think my interest in philosophy is almost impossible, I want to understand. It is not like I want to achieve world peace, or I want to understand justice. I don't have this big, ambitious picture; I am just so curious about understanding reality. So, I don't necessarily try to reconcile my personal worldviews with my philosophical ideas. But these days, I address issues that are more relevant to existential concerns. The problem of Evil, the meaning of life, maybe that's because I am getting old.
