ABOUT US

At Ediciones Castillo we firmly believe that pleasure is the one essential ingredient in the making of a reader. Within our catalogue of nearly 250 titles, enriched by the voices of both national and international authors, we are constantly seeking stories in which children and young readers can see themselves reflected whilst also finding ways to enjoy, question and marvel at both what unites us and what makes each of us unique. The selection process of each title is a pleasure to participate in and of utmost importance to us. A love of reading cannot be taught, but it certainly can be shared and made inspiring. Each book can empower its readers developing concentration, interpretation, inference, reflection and analysis. Above all, books can bring joy, inspire courage, encourage new ways of thinking, ignite the imagination and rekindle wonder at the mysteries of life and the human spirit. In this sense, our books are capable of making connections, encouraging a critical thought and sparking off endless conversations. This year we are excited to share with teachers —our invaluable allies— and our young readers, a selection of classic contemporary gems along with new titles that explore our relationship with food, social issues, critical thinking, the urgent need for action in the face of the climate crisis, and the exploration of emotions in today’s world, along with the challenges and opportunities this brings.

Isol (text and illustration) The classic that gave birth to the hit TV series about the curious little child Petit comes to Castillo —a boy sometimes naughty and sometimes well-behaved. Puzzled, he asks himself how he can be sometimes so good and at other times yet so mean. In the end his problem is not that he has become a monster, merely that he is a human. Tú You Oscar Brenifier and Viktoria Chernenko (text) Satoshi Kitamura (illustration)

Am I big? Am I small? Am I always the same? These questions are not that easy to answer, since life is full of dilemmas that sometimes give contradictory information. This book explores everyday situations as lived by children at preschool age, in order to guide them in their discovery of themselves and their everyday reality, based on their surroundings, emotions, needs and limits.

We can spend time with a person, who loves us and care for us, and learn a lot from that experience. But sometimes that same person can make us angry. Undoubtedly, hanging out with others is not so easy! Tú explores a series of everyday situations in the life of preschoolers which encourage self-awareness through the emotions of others as well as their own.

A boy and a girl live in different places, but they inhabit the same country and common spaces. ¿Cuál es…? ¿Tú qué crees? Which is Round? Which is Bigger? Mineko M. (text and illustration)

Puntos y más puntos Dots and More Dots Yukihisa Tokuda (text) Kyoko Orimo (illustration)

Little Camaleón goes out to discover the world that surrounds him. He wants to try everything and, if that was not enough, he also changes colors in the process. He relates to his environment —the animals, the plants, and the clouds that he encounters along the way— in this manner. He looks for his own color and, with it, what he loves the most. What color will Camaleón become today?

Which one is round: an apple or an armadillo? Which one is longer: a snake or an ant? Which one is faster: a puppy or a snail? Which one can reach higher: a cat or a mouse? Perhaps the answers may seem obvious, but if we look at things more carefully, we will see that things change and not everything is what it appears to be at first glance.

Purple circles that roll and are transformed. Black and green circles that turn round and round until they become something else. Shapes and colors that combine, make connections, and find new possibilities. In this book you will discover the colorful patterns with which nature has dressed plants and animals and, in this way, has made them unique.

Inconsolable, she hires the most astute detective of the forest who, accompanied by his audacious and irritable assistant, begins the search with only one clue —the duckling was after someone wearing a red cape.
