As he also tries to make sense of his best friend's strange new interests, he notices the school's doctor and nurse are behaving in quite an odd way. Yet none of that worried him after he held hands with Andrea —the girl who meant everything to him— who mysteriously vanishes on the first day of their final exams.

A writer moves to an old mansion where he hopes to find the silence and peace he needs to finish his novel. Instead, he meets an eleven-year-old boy, his cat, and the ghost of a picky lady. To make matters worse, when the author begins to get used to his new companions, he discovers that someone wants to tear down the mansion where he has finally begun to write.

After a start full of stumbling blocks, Armando, Ignecio and the ghost Oliva live happily in the Vela Mansion. They dedicate their days to writing and illustrating Paseo de las Ánimas, número 43, a mystery book.
