Update From Our Executive Director As we embark on our 50th year serving the Atlanta community I am happy to announce that Callanwolde is thriving; as we emerge from the pandemic in a financially strong position, we are re-committing resources to support underserved communities. Many people don’t realize that Callanwolde provides free classes to folks who need a little extra help and benefit tremendously from our programming. Veterans who suffer from PTSD were hit particularly hard during the pandemic. The isolation was devastating, and we got our veterans classes up and running as quickly as we could. Our program is so successful that the VA has asked us to add more classes for veterans who are transitioning out of homelessness. I’m also happy to announce that we have initiated a partnership with Kelley Lake Elementary, a Title I school in South DeKalb. Our instructors, led by Jerylann Warner, will be teaching jazz and ballet classes to 4th and 5th graders in an after-school program. We are also in the planning stages of programming for Kelley Lake students to take visual art classes here at Callanwolde. Callanwolde photography instructor Brooke Hewitt has been teaching digital photography to kids through Gigi’s Playhouse, an organization that supports kids and young adults with Down’s Syndrome. They are having a blast. I’m so proud of our instructors and staff who are dedicated to the mission of making Callanwolde such a welcoming place.

The slowness also allows the mind to be actively involved so that one’s awareness directs the movements, integrating one’s body, mind and spirit. Performance art is created through actions executed by the artist or other participants. It may be witnessed live or through documentation, spontaneously developed or written, and is traditionally presented to a public in a fine art context in an interdisciplinary mode. In Performance Art Practices we will be going through a series of skill building exercises meant to help center your focus and assist with recontextualizing your surroundings. This is a class that calls for self- exploration and can be used as a form of meditation. Bring a yoga mat. PERFORMANCE ART PRACTICES Performance Arts
