This lecture explores how growth, aging, and skeletal balance shape the face and smile over a patient’s lifetime. Drawing on de - cades of longitudinal records and innovative treatment planning software, Dr. Sarver will demonstrate how long-term data helps guide evidence-based decision making, and with Dr. Ferris will highlight aligner therapy, skeletal anchorage, restorative strate - gies, and surgical planning can be integrated to deliver transfor - mative esthetic and functional outcomes. Participants will learn how early intervention can positively influence facial and dental development, how to manage complex adult patients, and how digital tools allow clinicians to simulate, communicate, and deliv - er impactful results. Participants will learn how early intervention can positively influence facial and dental development, how to manage complex adult patients, and how digital tools allow clini - cians to simulate, communicate, and deliver impactful results. Learning Objectives: • Understand the influence of growth and aging on facial esthetics and smile design through long-term clinical records and subsequent data illustrated through digital simulations for patient communication. • Identify opportunities for early intervention to mitigate skeletal and dental imbalances and positively guide long- term facial development. • Evaluate treatment strategies ranging from orthognathic surgery cases with exceptional outcomes to interdisciplinary approaches that combine aligners, osseous anchorage, and restorative care to deliver esthetic, surgical-level results. • Incorporate software tools and digital planning into every - day practice to enhance diagnosis, simulate outcomes, and improve patient communication.

methods have made Dr. Samson one of today’s most popular educators. Participants are certain to enjoy a unique educational, clinical experience that is both informative and motivating. Note: No relevant financial relationships to disclose. It’s About Time Typically, “orthodontic treatment timing” topics target Class II, Class III, open-bites, extraction (or not), finishing, and retention. This presentation will focus on other timing issues. Learning Objectives: • New patients. What are the most and least effective approaches for successful case starts? • Non-compliance and extended treatment times. What is the timing for the most (and least effective) approaches. • Root resorption. What are effective communication strategies? When and how should these be presented? • Poor oral hygiene. Effective strategies to get the patient on-track and avoid disaster. • TEAM troubles. Effective strategies to resolve various issues. Timing is critical. • Patient non-payment and discontinuing treatment. Effective, non-threatening communication. When and how should these be instituted?
Dr. Gerry Samson is a 1975 Marquette Dental School graduate, completed pediatric dental residency in 1979 at Emory Dental School and completed orthodontic residency in 1981 at Northwestern Dental School. For nearly 40 years, Dr. Samson had an exclusive orthodontic practice in Marietta, Georgia. Currently, Dr. Samson holds formal university appointments

College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics (CDABO), promoting excellence in clinical education. Note: No relevant financial relationships to disclose. Skeletal Discrepancy Management: Timing of Or- thodopedic, Masking, and Surgical Interventions Timing is critical in managing skeletal discrepancies in orthodon - tics. Treatment options include orthopedic growth modification during growth, surgical correction after growth, or masking (cam - ouflage), when surgery is not feasible. Each approach depends on the patient’s age, growth potential, and severity of the discrepancy. Proper timing ensures optimal functional and esthetic outcomes. Learning Objectives: • Understand the principles and timing of growth modifica - tion, surgical intervention, and masking in the management of skeletal discrepancies in both the anteroposterior and transverse dimensions. • Identify key diagnostic indicators that inform the selection and timing of orthopedic, surgical, or masking strategies to achieve optimal functional and esthetic outcomes. • Evaluate clinical outcomes to determine the most appropri - ate treatment modality and timing for skeletal malocclusions.
Dr. Kyungsup Shin is the Ross D. Christensen Family Professor of Orthodontics and the Graduate Program Director at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. – he served as Honorary Lecturer at the 10th International Orthodontic Congress of the WFO in Rio de Janeiro in 2025. Note: No relevant financial relationships to disclose. Growth: Sometimes a Friend Sometimes an Enemy Much has been presented on orthodontic treatment at the early age: however, little has been discussed about the amount and role of growth during the same age period. It is well known that important changes occur from birth to eight years of age followed by another important period from eight to twelve years of age. This presentation intends to help orthodontists to carefully evaluate the pros and cons of Class II and Class III treatments on girls and boys based on an investigation that generated a quanti - tative assessment of improvement for Phase 1 treatment. Our purpose is to focus on answering the following questions: • How do boys differ from girls in Class II and Class III malocclusion? • What gains can be expected and when would early Class II treatment in girls and boys not be worthwhile? • What gains can be expected and when would early Class III treatment in girls and boys not be worthwhile?
