SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS
Sunday, July 19
8:00a.m.–9:45a.m. Auditorium
Update on Early Treatment of Class III Malocclusion Young patients presented with a mild to moderate skeletal Class III malocclusion can be intercepted with removable or fixed appliance in the mixed dentition. With the advent of new tools such as TADs and clear aligners, would it be possible to expand the scope of early Class III treatment? The speaker will update clinicians on the possible ways to expand the scope of early Class III malocclusion. Cases with long-term records will be shown to support the notion of early Class III treatment. Learning Objectives: • Participants will learn what type of Class III skeletal malocclusion can be intercepted with early orthodontic/ orthopedic treatment • Participants will learn how new tools such as TADs and clear aligners can facilitate early Class III treatment • Participants will learn the stability of early Class III treatment

methods have made Dr. Samson one of today’s most popular educators. Participants are certain to enjoy a unique educational, clinical experience that is both informative and motivating. Note: No relevant financial relationships to disclose. It’s About Time Typically, “orthodontic treatment timing” topics target Class II, Class III, open-bites, extraction (or not), finishing, and retention. This presentation will focus on other timing issues. Learning Objectives: • New patients. What are the most and least effective approaches for successful case starts? • Non-compliance and extended treatment times. What is the timing for the most (and least effective) approaches. • Root resorption. What are effective communication strategies? When and how should these be presented? • Poor oral hygiene. Effective strategies to get the patient on-track and avoid disaster. • TEAM troubles. Effective strategies to resolve various issues. Timing is critical. • Patient non-payment and discontinuing treatment. Effective, non-threatening communication. When and how should these be instituted?
Dr. Gerry Samson is a 1975 Marquette Dental School graduate, completed pediatric dental residency in 1979 at Emory Dental School and completed orthodontic residency in 1981 at Northwestern Dental School.
