Grind & Calibrate THE ART OF PRECISION
Grinding is a cold process, rubbing generates heat which is why an abrasive stone needs coolant: the grits are randomly distributed in a bonded wheel so the majority rub instead of cut.
Abrasive belts on the other hand, have the grit lined up in the direction of use, so a cold process.
Ellesco’s suppliers have taken advantage of this simple fact to produce machines with prodigious metal removal rates and to very high accuracies; better than ±0.02mm flatness over areas of 2500x10000m to a 0.1μm finish or better. Over such large areas, coolant has to be employed simply to flush away the removed material fast enough.
