Close to $1 million is going into a new project in EasternOntario, to help farm- ers in the region with water manage- ment needs for their lands. The South Nation Conservation Au- thority (SNC) is taking the lead in de- veloping a hydro geologic model that will provide farmers in the South Nation River watershed region with up-to-date information on weather and water con- ditions that may affect their operations. The federal Ministry of Agriculture and Agri-Food is providing a $997,654 invest- ment in the SNC’s project, which will use a Canadian-designed hydrologic simula- tor which predicts themovement of water on and through the ground. “Our government recognizes that Canadian farmers face risk every day in managing their businesses,” said Fran- cis Drouin, MP for Glengarry-Prescott- Russell, during the Aug. 23 news con- ference announcement of the project in Winchester. “This investment is all about giving farmers the tools they need to ad- just their farms to a changing climate. Helping farmers be better informed in making their water management deci- sions is good for the sector’s sustainable growth, good for farmers’ bottom lines, and good for the Canadian economy.” The 15-month project will create an integrated groundwater-surface water forecasting model for the South Nation River watershed.The project will use the HydroGeoSphere, a piece of Canadian technology, as part of the analysis and forecasting system that will provide SNC technicians with real-time information on surface and subsurface water condi- tions to pass on to farmers, and also aid the SNC with its flood condition mon- itoring and forecasting for the watershed region. La Chambre de commerce Clarence-Roc- kland (CCCR) a pourvu son poste à la di- rection générale avec la nomination de Karine Lauzon. Elle est entrée en poste au mois de juillet. Mme Lauzon possède déjà de l’expé- rience dans ce domaine, ayant été directrice générale au RGA Basse-Lièvre pendant six ans. Elle y a notamment élaboré diverses stratégies de communication et de marke- ting à l’égard de la communauté d’affaires. Mme Lauzon a également réalisé plusieurs partenariats d’affaires, communautaires et événementiels. Elle a aussi piloté plusieurs projets novateurs, en lien avec la mise en œuvre du plan stratégique de l’organisation. « C’est avec enthousiasme qu’elle (Mme Lauzon) se joint à la Chambre afin de contri- buer à relever les défis économiques de notre territoire et défendre les intérêts des membres, a déclaré Andréa Delorme, la pré- sidente de la CCCR.
