Bringing special charm to this year’s edition of the festival will be the inclu- sion of the legendary Wim Wenders, who will preside over the internation- al jury for the main competition pro- gramme. This famous German direc- tor, one of the key representatives of New German Cinema, is known for his classic creations Paris, Texas and Wings of Desire, as well as numerous other works. He takes on this jury role with a strong sense of personal attach- ment to the festival and the city. That’s because Wenders isn’t a guest at this festival, rather he’s always viewed Ber- lin as the artistic home of his long ca- reer... He was awarded the honorary Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement in 2015, when the festival screened seven restored versions of his most important films. Previously, his film The Million Dollar Hotel won the Sil- platform for the freedom of artistic expression, so- cial debate and cultural ex- change since its inception. ver Bear at the 2000 Berlinale. “It never hit me to even remotely think about being jury president in my hometown until Tricia Tuttle asked NEW BERLINALE Wenders to head the Berlinale jury The Berlin Film Festival transforms the German capital into one of the most important destinations on the world’s cultural map every year in mid-February

me. And then I realised: wow! That’ll be a whole new way to see films at the Berlinale, for once watch each and every one in the Competition and dis- cuss them all in-depth with a group of intelligent and movie-loving people. How good can it get? I’m grateful to Tricia for inviting me to this rare expe- rience, said Wenders. According to the festival announce- ment confirming his inclusion, Wim Wenders is one of the most influential voices in international cinema...

“For six decades, he has made films that move and delight us with their humanity and sense of wonder,” ex- plained Berlinale Director Tricia Tut- tle. “His insatiable curiosity and deep mastery of film language are evident in every work, whether he is explor- ing the gifts of other artists or illu- minating our own search for mean- ing and connection. To say we are proud of this homegrown polymath is an understatement, and we cannot wait to see where jury president Wim Wenders leads our jury in picking the Golden and Silver Bear winners of the 76 th Berlinale.” Under his leadership, the festival ju- ry will decide on the most prestigious awards: the Golden Bear (for best film) and several Silver Bears (for directing, acting, screenplay and special artistic achievements). The Berlinale has a diverse pro- gramme, ranging from the main com- petition to sections like one dedicated to young authors, among others. The festival also often includes retrospec- tives exploring historical eras of film, which is why the 2026 edition will in- clude a retrospective dedicated to the 1990s – a transformative decade of cultural upheavals that shaped mod- ern cinematography. This is certain to be another exciting cinematic Febru- ary in Berlin.
