A conversation with Dana Sela, an employee of the Quality Control Department, and leads community involvement on behalf of the company D ana Sela worked for 11 years in the R&D Department of Omrix Biopharmaceuticals LTD, a bio- tech company which belongs to the Johnson & Johnson Group. In the Employees’ volunteering experience varies across sectors: from production workers to upper management -
"When a team goes on a volunteering activity, it is usually a manager and their respective team, or a team leader and their employees. That way, each volunteering activity is integrated. The connection between manager and employees becomes stronger, and they experience the heart-warming activity as a team. There are teams that are interested in volunteering at a new place each time, and there are others that want to return to the same community and build the connection that was initially created. Therefore, the activity is decided as a group, with both employees and managers, and everyone returns with good insights.' How do you handle the challenge of recruiting volunteers? "Actively going out in a group to volunteer inherently means that the group is interested in volunteering, therefore coordinating such an activity is easier. But when a voluntary activity is announced to the entire organization, there are fewer participants because there is no team dynamic which would encourage one to participate.” That's why it's much easier to volunteer as a department/team rather than sporadically.' "Employee access to the community is a very important element. I believe that every person who volunteers is not only doing good for others, but also for himself. Many studies show that people who volunteer are happier and healthier."
