Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company (SBMC)

Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company (SBMC) is Scotland’s leading social enterprise providing employment opportunities for disadvantaged veterans – particularly those with life-changing physical and mental health disabilities brought about by service. Operating as a not-for-profit social enterprise, the factory reinvests 100% of its surplus back into the operation – and the activity of its parent charity, Royal British Legion Industries - to provide greater employment, welfare, and housing opportunities to its beneficiaries. Through a combination of flexible,

model, which incorporates not just an employability offering but also a crucial training and welfare development programme, sees the enterprise offer unparalleled social value for its clients. SBMC does not simply supply first-class products for its broad range of customers, but those customers can also see the demonstrable impact doing business with SBMC has on those who work or volunteer in the factory. This is recognised by customers large and small, including one of the country’s largest infrastructure companies who have been a committed supporter of SBMC. The Scotland’s Bravest vision is predicated on helping people regain their independence. This is achieved by providing individuals with the tools to change their own lives. This is done by becoming a truly industry-leading enterprise, where individuals have the opportunity to work on nationally-significant projects. Special Quality Alloys Ltd (SQA)

Special Quality Alloys Ltd (SQA) is a family-owned manufacturer and supplier of forgings, rolled rings, and bar stock in specialist steels and alloys. Since 1986, the company has successfully supplied critical industries including oil and gas, power generation, and the emerging renewables markets. Winning a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of International Trade in 2022 was a very proud achievement for the company. Kirsty Wilson, Business Development Manager said,

“Winning a Queen’s Award was a great moment in the company’s history and a testament to the highly skilled and committed workforce we have here in Sheffield”. The subsequent months since receiving the award have been both eventful and positive in many ways. In early 2023, we received a call from Buckingham Palace to advise us that we had been selected to welcome HRH The Princess Royal during her visit to the city of Sheffield. We were

reliably informed that the decision to include SQA in this momentous visit to the region was attributed to our Queen’s Award success. Another wonderful day for the company and its employees.
