Collins Aerospace in Prestwick, an RTX business, is a global leader in the supply of Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) services for aerospace nacelle and aero-engine component systems in the civil aerospace market. Collins works in collaboration with customers and partners to design and deliver solutions for the aerospace market. Innovation focus areas include enabling hybrid-electric propulsion for more fuel- efficient flight, creating data systems to deliver powerful insights that improve airline operations and combining modern design with technology for a best-in-class cabin experience. Operating in the challenging aerospace environment, nacelle systems are required to be aerodynamic and lightweight, while also being strong, durable and highly reliable. These design requirements demand that the Collins service centre in Prestwick specialises in working with highly complex metallic and composite structures – providing repair and maintenance services to the very highest standard of safety, quality and reliability.

The Collins Prestwick site is also strongly focused on continuously improving the speed and efficiency for all customers through increased collaboration and an enhanced customer experience. An in-house innovation centre optimises internal skill sets and the latest technologies to progress the business. Underpinned by a strong focus on export sales, MRO services are directly provided to a range of Collins airline customers, aircraft leasing companies and aeroengine service providers. The site exports to more than 40 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Continued investment and sustained growth Collins Aerospace’s Prestwick location was established in 1996 and has undertaken significant and continual investments since to ensure that the company’s site on the west coast of Scotland remains a world leading aerospace facility. Originally utilising a rented workspace to service a domestic customer base, success attained via export driven sales meant that new, larger premises were required to support customer demand. A custom-built 120,000 square foot facility was opened in 2004, which was further expanded in 2007 to 250,000 square feet. The company has continually evolved to position itself to achieve near and long-term growth, evidenced by the decision to make significant investment in one of Europe’s largest aerospace autoclaves. Installed in 2017, this enabled the servicing of larger new generation of commercial aircraft from the site, creating access to long-term growth markets for decades to come.
