Criteria... INNOVATION
Back in 1966, when these prestigious awards were instigated by HM The Queen, companies could apply to win in the categories of Export, Technology, or a combination of the two. In 2000, the awards were renamed The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, and the Technology category was updated to become Innovation, to better reflect developments in UK manufacturing and homegrown businesses. Today, the awards are now known as the King’s Awards and the Innovation entries continue to be consistently strong, with more than 40 awards in this category awarded last year to businesses in recognition of their outstanding achievements. The general eligibility criteria for The King’s Awards can be found on the website https://www.gov.uk/kings-awards-for- enterprise/eligibility.
To apply for the Innovation award, your company must also meet the following additional criteria: z Have an innovation that has not been sold before; z Have had your innovation available on the market for at least two years; z Have recovered all the investments made in your innovation, or show that the innovation will recover its full costs in future; z Show outstanding commercial success as a result of innovation over two years – or continuous commercial success over five years. Your innovation should be in one of the following categories: z Invention, design or production of goods; z Performance of services; z Marketing and distribution; or z After-sale support of goods or services.
