With the invention of Dura Composites’ d² Dura Grating product, the company created a unique product that is up to 33% lighter than other GRP walkway grating in the market, meaning it also reduces the amount of embodied carbon substantially, whilst managing to maintain an excellent performance-to-weight ratio. Its market-leading designs offer low slip performance in both dry and wet weather conditions, while state-of-the-art composition ensures maximum safety tested to over one million footfalls. It has developed a range of GRP/FRP grating products to suit a number of application requirements, each ranging in mesh size, resistance and price, all offering outstanding safety, performance and durability. Since the launch of Dura Composites’ re- engineered d² grating, it has saved over 1.3 million kilograms of raw materials. Comparing this with its former d1 grating (or the grating still available elsewhere in the industry), d² has led to a saving of nearly 5 million kilograms of CO2. To offset this amount of carbon, you would need to plant over 700,000 trees and let them grow for ten years, which would cover an area of over 300 football fields. The d² grating range has been a game-changer for the company and its clients, who see the advantages at installation stage, through weight savings that allow safer and easier handling with
less labour as part of the fitting process, and also the commercial and sustainability benefits provided by the vast reduction in CO2. This allows large contractors and end clients within the public and private sector to demonstrate the reduction in CO2 or carbon generated by their project.
