that many future men and. women will excell Jesus.” All that we have to say regarding the book is, that until Mr. Gard, produces a better bbolc than the Bible, and lives a better‘life than Jesus Christ, we have lit tle interest in his speculations.—J. L. B. — O ;— The Sons of K ing David B y M ildred D u f f a n d N oel H ope A companion, book to “David the Shep herd Who Became King,” and a very wholesome and excellent story for young people. It gives a faithful and searching account of the flaws in King : David's- character, and especially of the sin and weaknéss which brought remorse and punishment to his later years; but, side by side with these, shows his real nobility and fineness, so that his life ,can be viewed in its entirety. The book is well and interestingly writ ten, keeping clpse to the Bible story and text, showing the. wide range of careful study in its' preparation, , and pointing many, life applications; »whiefi are most ■ timely and wholesome.... A helpful book for adolescents and their1teachers. —F. M. C. M. C. ■ Mussolini, His Work and th e New Syndical Law B y C a v a lièr e R a ffa e l e M u riello MacNiven and Wallace Company, Ed inburgh, have published a brief word re garding “Mussolini, His Work and-Ahç New Syndical Law,” by Lt. CoL Cavalière Raffaele. Muriello, with a Foreword by Professor Stalker that is sold for one shilling, but* ik a very interesting and il-
luminating pamphlet. It enables us to understand Fascism from the point of view of those who are sympathetic with . Mussolini. We have two quotations from him that give us an idea, of .,what he believes, and this little, pamphlet is a record of the way in which he is carrying out these convic tions in the life of Italy. The.first'is a . statement made April 6, 1924: “Let all political parties disappear, even our own party, if necessary, r in order that our country may be great.” The second was made a few days before that, on March 24, 1924 : “I now affirm that there is no spiritual or political movement which has à more firm and determined (clear) »doctrine than Fascism. W.e have: truths and precise realities before our spirit, and they . are these :—The State must be " strong. The Government must defend itselfpland défend the ' Nation from all disintegrating attacks. There must be the collaboration of; all classes. The respect of Religion. The intense exercise of all national energies. This doctrine is a doc trine of life and not a doctrine of death.” According to the Story as it is here told, these, doctrines, as they are being made real by Mussolini, are" working a revolution that is ihjlvery way for the highest .good of Italy. It is worthy of consideration and should enable all Chris tians. to more, sympathetically understand the reports of what is going on in Italy as we have them in the daily press. '. —J. M. M. The Sermon T h a t Was Never Preached This.is only a 25c booklet, but it is most , attractively put up, and .pomes from the publication office of “Our Hope,” New York. It is calculated to. set drifting ministers, and Christian workers to think ing. It is a touching story of the attempt of a certain professor to get up a ser mon which he had been askpd to preach in the University Church. Before hé had the opportunity of delivering the line of thought he had determined upon, some thing happened, and the whole course ot his- life; ^nd thinking was changed. We will not outline the story, but we advise all to. spend 25c for this'story and then pass it on to .some one who needs just the message it contains..—K, L. B. ■ — o — Christ In the Four Gospels B y J o h n H, C a ba l .. This excellent book will be indispens able to. any would-be Bjble Student. Its référencés and notes .are-numerous. They are very ' compact; »easily »understood, .au thentic, and .splendidly-arranged. As the author so cleverly says,, he has “gath- , ¿red flowers from other people’s gardens . ■and tied théhï with his own string,” Each "period of Christ’s life is given in detail, covering the four gospels, The book.is i, instructive,. interesting, apd inspiring. It will be exceptionally good for'Classroom work as well as for the individual.. The picture of our Lord’s life presented here is worth far more .to any, man.than»,the small cost of this .volume.—W.
