study today a little about the Bible, God’s H oly Word. STUDY QUESTIONS 1. What book does Paul say should be studied? (2 Tim . 2:15.) 2. What does it mean to be “ approved unto God” ? 3. Can anyone be acceptable to God who does not study His Word? 4. Discuss together some of the profit able ways to study the Bible. Spend some time on this. Ask the members how they study the Bible, and how they get the most out of their study time. 5. What does Paul mean when he says, “ rightly dividing the word of truth” ? 6 . A re you familiar with the dispen sations taught in the Bible? Can you properly apply the various portions of the Bible to the intended recipients of those portions? Do you know when God is speaking of the Jew, of the Gentile and of the Church? This is of utmost im portance in an intelligent study of the W ord of God. 7. How much of the Bible is inspired? (2 Tim . 3:16.) 8 . What does “ inspiration” mean? Does this mean that God guarded His Word from all error and has given us exactly what He wants us to know about Him and His w ill for our lives? Indeed so! See 2 Peter 1:21. 9. For what is the Bible profitable? (2 Tim . 3:16.) Discuss the meaning of each of these values: “ doctrine,” i.e., teaching— the truth about God, etc.; “ re proof,” i.e., conviction— convicting of sin and the need of salvation, and, in the case of believers, of their sin and need of confession and restored fellowship with God (1 John 1 :9 ); “ correction,” i.e., res toration— the sinner needs to be restored back to the position and holiness he lost through the Fall; “ instruction,” i.e., edu cation in righteousness— this is the right eousness the believer has accounted to him the moment he believes, and it also re fers to that practical holiness of life God expects from every true believer. 10. T o what end does the Bible teach the believer? (2 Tim . 3:17; Heb. 4:12.) 4. What is really the “ chief end of man” ? (1 Pet. 4:11; 1 Cor. 10:31.) 5. Does God give some special gift to each man? (Rom. 12:3-6; 1 Cor. 12:4-11; Eph. 4:7.) 6 . W h y does God give His gifts to men? (Eph. 4:16; 1 Cor. 12:7.) 7. Do you think that every life is im portant to God, especially that of the be liever? Can the body of Christ function properly if each member is not operating efficiently? (1 Cor. 12:12-27.) 8 . W ith what spirit or attitude should each believer make his contribution to the life of the Church? (Rom. 12:6-21.) 9. What should be the goal of every believer’s life as far as the body of Christ, the Church, is concerned? (Eph. 4:1-3,12-16.) 10. H ow does Paul speak about the use of the believer’s time? (Eph. 5:13-17.) 11. What do you think is meant by the words “ redeeming the time” ? (Eph. 5:16.) 12. In what ways can the believer “ buy up the opportunities” along life’s way? List the things that could be done with our wasted time. 13. Is it practical to spend your time for Christ and His Church? (Matt. 6:19- 24; Col. 4:1-4; 1 Cor. 15:58; Gal. 6:7-10.) It is good for God’s people to set aside at least one Sunday to contemplate the wonders of the W ord of God. The greatest tragedy of modern times is the terrible damage done in the church b y those self-styled schol ars who have robbed the people of faith in the inspired W ord of God. W e are thankful for scholarship that helps us in the understanding of the Bible, but cannot accept for a moment the blasphemous mouthings of some about the errors and contradictions and inconsistencies of the Bible. The Bible is not on trial of men; the Bible tries men’s hearts and finds them sinful and in need of the salvation so freely offered to men in Jesus Christ. And this glorious record is given to us in permanent form in the Bible. Let us
