laboring for reward. There is nothing worthwhile in it, that is, if one rises no I higher than the sun. In 1:13 the folly of searching out the mysteries of the world is presented. In 2:1 it is concluded that giving one’s self to pleasure is also a useless thing. It is an empty exercise. In 2:18 sorrow is presented because, the results of one’s labor must be left to another. In 3:16 he sees wickedness and righteousness so confused in this world as to make no sense. In 4:1 he sees no profit in being oppressed or in doing the oppressing. In neither case is there any comforter. In 5:10-12 it is clear that gaining of riches does not amount to anything. A fter all it seems that the poor laboring man is better off than the man who has wealth. Reaching a Conclusion 12:1, 13, 14 The evidence is now all in, evidence from personal experience and from ob servation. The preacher had tried every thing the world has to offer. In his clos ing chapter what are his conclusions? First, Remember the Creator in youth, v. 1. Second, Fear God and keep His commandments, v. 13. Third, Forget not the judgment, v. 14. This is all right as far as it goes. This is the best that the man “ under the sun” can do. But this ought to lead a man to lift his eyes above the sun to live in the Son of God. W e have nothing of atonement in Ecclesiastes. W ithout Christ no man can perform God’s will. Helps for the Children Thinking About God Eccl. 12 MEMORY VERSE: "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth . . ." Eccl. 12:1. One of God’s wise servants wrote in the book of Ecclesiastes: “ Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth . . .” (Eccl. 12:1a). A s you kept Christmas secrets and opened Christmas presents did you remember whose birthday you were celebrating? Did you Christian boys and girls remember to thank God for His gift of love to you? Did you remember to share the news of the Saviour with a loved one or a friend? D id you give presents only to your fam ily and your friends, or did you take time to offer a gift of love and service and thanks to the Lord Jesus upon His birthday? Some boys and girls and young peo ple say, “W ell, I want to have a good time now. W hen I’m too old to do any thing else I’ll become a Christian and join a church.” God, our Creator, wants all of our life. He can use us little when our youth and energy are gone. Those who ask the Lord Jesus to become their Saviour when they are young are saving their souls and their lives for His service. Perhaps older folk have told you that you were too young to accept the Lord Jesus as your personal Saviour. As soon as you are old enough to choose right from w rong in you r words, and in your actions, you are old enough to ask the Saviour to cleanse you from sin and to make you His child forever. If you are not too young to love your parents, you are not too young to love the Lord Jesus! END.
